    Plain unscented talc powder

Can anyone tell me where I can buy unscented, plain old ordinary talcum powder. Johnsons and such are all scented. An alternative is chalk.

    What do you powerlifters use?

My gym has a no powder policy so the scented stuff, besides smelling of a clean baby's arse, is a bit of a give away and in summer the bars are far too slick.

Are you talking about talc for your thighs, or chalk for your hands?

I don't use talc (but I probably should!) but the chalk I use in the gym is Beal Liquid Chalk - its heaps less messy, plus you can put the bottle in your pocket. I get it from Pinnacle Sports in Red Hill for around $20 which is a little more expensive than regular chalk, but a bottle lasts ages.

Just need something to help with the greasy bars in the gym. Not sure if there is that much of a difference between chalk and talc or am I wrong? A gym I used in Canada (Iron Works, run by a strongman competitor) has chalk in bins all around the place (see pic, 2 in one corner plus more elsewhere). A real treat. But where I train it is tantamount to killing a puppy.

Sounds like the liquid stuff should suit the "black ops" use. Will check it out.

Also, any idea where to buy blocks of chalk?

I know years back tennis players used small pouches of powder in their pockets to assist grip on handles. Not sure if the pouches leached chalk but some fine powder. They may be still around.

Australian Kettlebell sell blocks of chalk.

I only use a little now and then for deads as our bars have no knurling...they're that old. A little goes a long way.

Buy Gym Chalk or Weightlifting Chalk / Lifting Chalk | Australian Kettlebells

May seem a little pricey, but that'll last you forever.

    Regards,

    -Mitch.

That kettlebells chalk is an absolute rip off - if you pay more than $4 for a block of chalk you are paying too much. Pinnacle sports that I mentioned above has about a million different types. Any climbing store can help as well, I bought my last stuff from Globe Trecker at 142 Albert St in the city - a block for $3.99

Didn't even realise Tim! Thanks for the heads up.

How do you find the liquid chalk as opposed to regular stuff?

Was thinking on getting a bottle, just seems a little less messy. Though I do love my baggy of chalk.

    Regards,

    -Mitch.

Its fine, less mess than dry chalk. You just squeeze about a 20c piece worth inyo your hand, then give them a quick rub together. It dries in a minute or two and from then it is exactly like regular chalk. It does work out more expensive, but a bottle has lasted me quite a while, maybe 6 months - and I use it once a week.

    Thanks Tim,

Might give it a whirl then, as I'd only use it for deadlift's once a week...and really only on 3x and 5/3/1 days if necessary. Grip's fine so far.

    Regards,

    -Mitch.
