Relationship between pump and permanant gains

I thought this might make an interesting topic. I figure guys who have been in this game for a while have witnessed the correlation between pump and permanent gains over and over.

After training I get a pump to various degrees, particularly in my chest and traps. There is a considerable contrast between post workout and then the size the muscles appears to be later on.

I wonder, how long have people found it takes to achieve permanent gains like the pump you see in the mirror after a workout at any given time ?
Its only hard if you dont know how.

I might not have fully understood the thrust of your thread, but it might be a hard question to ask, as the variables better the pump and muscle differ.

I have bigger muscle now than the pump i got when i started, but I'm not sure if thats what you mean in the question.

I think i know what he is saying.
It's like what you see in the mirror after a workout and you think "if only that's how i looked all the time - ie; soon as i got out of bed in the morning".

How long does it take for you to have the physique you have after a workout, only without a pump?
    Is that correct?

My wording was a bit average.

I have days where I look thicker, and days where I look like I don't even lift.

I guess it would take a long time to look like you do when pumped. Take forearms for example, there filled with blood so it looks more vascular baloon like, but a cold muscle can't really beat it.

I got ya now, well put MO.

    The answer is forever!

We are always going to more pumped than we ever will be cold, we will always be trying to get the pumped size, so you are never going to get there!

    Trick question :)

Depends on how hard you work, how much you eat, and chemical assistance and 100 other factors.

I personally could not give a answer, though that does not mean there is not one!

Question is a how long is a piece of string question....
Whenever you see your pumped muscle in the mirror its always going to be bigger than cold... Even if you said it took 6 months to look like you did pumped 6 months ago, only cold, you're still going to look bigger when pumped now.... (I think that made sense)
It's never ending... But can be good motivation if you use it mentally the right way....
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!

    Yeah infinite loop.

Probably has something to do with quantum physics and worm holes..... an with out a DeLorean with a fully functioning Flux Capacitor, we may never know the answer.

"on xyz date of the year with a pump, how long does it take to look how you did on that xyz date only cold.....not taking into consideration ANYMORE of your pumps from THAT xyz date onwards."

Think of it like this. If your 80kg @ 12% BF and when your pumped you guess you look like 85kg @ 8%BF then to get to what you look like at that point in time pumped you would have to put on 5kg and drop 4% BF so question is now how long will this take you?? But more importantly enjoy the journey and dont rush it!

    Lol

Question is a how long is a piece of string question....
Actually, I dont think its a complex question. Reason bieng, I dont expect anyone to provide an answer which is some kind of general rule.

I was looking for personal experiences from each individual. That way, I can observe the answers and perhaps see some kind of pattern. As I said, especially interested in comments from mid - long term body builders as they have had time to observe a pattern in thier muscle growth.

It's never ending... But can be good motivation if you use it mentally the right way....
Yes your right it is excellent motivation, because looking at your pumped physique is like a snapshot of the future, thats what your working towards. You know, you can say, well 3 months (for arguments sake) of hard work will get me there, at which time you can assess your next goal, and all you have to do is look in the mirror after a workout for inspiration.
Its only hard if you dont know how.

That sounds like an excellent common sense approach.

I'll throw you an answer just for the hell of it - i get what you mean.
I think this is just more of a chit chat/pass time question, but i have had your line of thoughts in the past.

After pump workout is what i would be about a year or 2 later, cold. Probably closer to 2 years.

Kind of like looking into the future provided you continue going at it 100%.
