Can't recommend any CBD gyms. I've casually used FF Bond St & Market St. Maybe OK if your going off peak, but in peak times they are over crowded with too much socialising for my liking. Anything in the CBD is gunna be expensive and pretentious.
My recommendation is Sydney Uni. You could either catch a train to Redfern then walk it or catch a bus on George St that heads up King St. Either way you can get from the CBD to gym in 20 mins tops. There are 3 gyms on site, your membership determines which ones you have access to. But all 3 are still going to be cheaper then CBD clubs.
Check out their website: Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness
The equipment is excellent. Nothing overly fancy but lots of honest to goodness body building gear. Lot's of bench's, racks, barbells & dumbbells. The Arena Spots center has got proper Olympic lifting platforms, IE suspended wooden floors & the correct bumper plates to use on the bars. Indoor pool, squash courts, tennis courts, climbing gym, boxing gym, grass ovals to go for a run on. The list goes on.
Best of all, the people you'll be training alongside are often elite athletes. One day it could be the girls soccer team the next the guys rugby team. This is great motivation. No one's talking on their mobile phones.
I'm a big fan of Sydney Uni gyms (obviously). As soon as I get back from NQ I'll be joining back up.
Yea i'll probably joining up in a month cause i'm moving to camperdown but i'll be going to the one closest to the hospital have you been there tranquilo? any good? $40 a month can't go wrong...
I'm paying that now at UNSW but it's the only gym under $80 a month in eastern suburbs so it's fucking packed all the time which is annoying and it's not a large gym either but has everything you need.
@OP Alternatively you could go camperdown fitness which is like a gym mecca and only a few suburbs away from the CBD.
Heaps of hammer gear and well everything really the place is massive like 4 levels or something and brand new.
All 3 gyms are fairly close to RPA, the closest is HK Ward. But this is mostly for boxing. The Arena sports complex is the biggest & most well equipped for BB. The sports and aquatic center is decent as well. The membership I used to have was called Swim/Gym. It gave full time access to Arena + weekend access to the aquatic center.
Camperdown fitness sounds interesting.
City Gym
107 Crown Street, East Sydney
Haven't trained there for over 15 years - was pretty hardcore at the time.
Yea the arena will be the one i might go to it's only 700 meters from my new place.
So it's very well equipped?? dose it get very crowded??
Yea camperdown fitness is awesome but it's $37 a fortnight witch is almost twice as much as Sydney uni so if the arena is well equipped and is packed that's where i'll be singing up in a month.
Lucky you guys. In Cairns James Cook DOENS'T HAVE A GYM.
It used to have oune at $2 a visit but when the union closed (howard) then the gym closed.
I'm at camperdown fitness now but looking for a gym in the cbd was thinking of going to the devil FF Plat club on george street, but I left FF a while ago because they sucked my account dry... Anyone find an new cbd gyms ? or have experience with FF Plat club in George street ..
Thanks !
city gym,crown st,
What's wrong with camperdown fitness?
thanks I might check out city gym ! Nothing wrong with camperdown fitness, but I have moved and my work is in the cbd now as well and I like to go during the day !
I just found out there is a goodlife gym in bond street anyone use them ?
Trained at City Gym up until I moved back to Melbourne last November.
Facilities and people were really top notch
I train at home, but went to City Gym recently when I was in Sydney, it's a top gym. The other people are good motivation because there are both advanced and intermediate bodybuilders training there.
Its only hard if you dont know how.
