    Milk Thistle

    Hey!
Been reading and hearing a fair bit in regards to milk thistle for the liver.

What are peoples thoughts on this product in terms of is it a requirement? and if so what is the best brand or
    Website to purchase it??

P.S i drink once every week or 2 which is basically my cheat meal....

    thanks!

M.O will chime in at some stage, I believe he has done quite a bit of research on liver aids, milk thistle included.

Milk thistle saved my liver from death. :)

IMO, this is a MUST supp. Optimum liver function is critical to optimum health and wellbeing. As for best brands? I buy it in bulk and cap it.

Mate, few years back I was diagnosed with Haemocromatosis, a genetic blood disorder, which basically buggers your main organs. My liver was shot to the shithouse because of that and because I drank too much. The alcohol simply made the illness worse in my liver. Liver blood tests were off the charts and getting worse. My doctor "prescribed" high doses of MT and within 6 months my liver enzymes were back to "normal".

I think we don't take enough care of our liver and given how important it is, that's a mistake, imo.

I buy mine from an ebay supplier, who is in Qld I think. Or, you can get pre-capped MT from iHerb.com - Vitamins, Supplements & Natural Health Products very cheaply, and I think Ben from Bioflex was talking about supplying it in bulk.

Going to look into this! My liver function was abit low so said the doc.
Couldn't hurt to supplement it either.

T2, the bulk you buy, is it useable without capping??

Yes, you can still use it without capping, although not too sure about the taste :) The difficulty with using powder uncapped is getting the dose right.

And you're right, it can't hurt to supplement. Without a 100% liver, virtually nothing else can be 100%.

I'm using Now Foods, Silymarin Milk Thistle Extract 300mg. I get it from iherb.

I'm attributing cleaning up my act, the milk thistle and R-ALA rectifying my not so good liver enzyme figures.

There are a number of liver tonics around: Liverplex, LiverTone Pkus, and so on, and most have thistle as the base, but many also have other ingredients like dandelion, artichoke, et al, all of which, will help support the liver.

However, at the end of the day, silymarin, the key part of thistle, is a great liver supp. If you add anything else to it, that's a bonus, but not totally necessary, imo.

I switched from regular milk thistle products to Liv.52 DS, when I had my bloods done not too long ago the Liver function tests were essentially perfect...
Thats not to say its better or worse, but its cheaper and it helps in having a fully funtioning healthy liver...
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!
