Found this contained some very interesting points.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics, so the saying goes......

I must admit that I haven't done my statistical studies for my PhD yet, but I find a survey of 1000 across a population of 22,000,000 or so, hardly seems compelling.

It might be interesting to know if they did a wide geographical cross section of Australian society.. I live in Cairns and i'd say that was a fare result.. most people i know believe in 'something' but no common religion. On the other hand i imagine that parts of Sydney or Melbourne would have a more 'faith' based result.
