On a side note i spent a lot of today in a Mosque (longish story) and i can say more than ever, that listening to the Imam and watching the kiddies rock back and forth as they learnt the Koran by heart during their morning lesions, that religion based on an interventionist god is the most amazing load of nonsense we every made ourselves believe. Abet completely necessary in a certain space and time, but with no place in a better, fairer and more enlightened present and future.

Well done again Azzah, you may never let go of that agnosticism, but then again maybe it would be best for you not to......
Thanks Brick. I really respect your opinions so I'm happy if I've written something that's made you think. But don't think there my ideas alone - its really a synthesizing of numerous sources that have spoken to me - including what others have written on this thread. My agnosticism is really an acceptance that I believe our human minds are limited in capacity and can only understand so much, and that many truths and concepts might be beyond our ability to understand. Can a dog/cat/donkey/monkey, etc, ever understand what it is to be human? No. Can we understand what it is like to be them - that is, concsious but not self conscious? No. Similary, I think there is probably greater levels of consciousness that we are just not open to at this period of our evolution and that we are incapable of fully recognising and understanding. Thus, whatever 'truth' I may have now is only relative to my level of evolution, education, cultural upbrining, etc. I find it exciting - there's always something more to learn. But many miss the security blanket that certainty, such as that provided by traditional Christianity or Isalm, provide.

I would like to add, that not only have Newton and Copernicus changed our worldly view but so have other masters such as Carl Justin Jung and Sigmund Freud. They showed us that there is a subconscious mind. Jung showed us that this mind has archetypes and these are the gods of old cultures(pre-religion). They showed us that we are often motivated by these subconscious forces. Jung showed us that the group has a mind such as the planet or racial gestalt.

Such simple explanations of the mind and the process of personal development in introspection and psychoanalysis has proven that these exoteric religions are bullshit and that the true path is inward(esoteric).

So even though organized religions, as we know it, has been proven a load of crap, we have been shown a perfectly logical and intelligent path. I think that the new wave of spirituality is here to replace religion - for those who are ready for it.
I agree with most of what you say Peter, except that organised religion has proven to be a load of crap. Religion has been an important part of human beings opening up to the spiritual world, and was needed in a 'certain time and space' as Brick says. But we do need to move on - its like getting to second grade in primary school and then deciding that all there is to learn and experience. Some people will always be happy with that, but there is so much more. I think there is a new wave of spirituality that will be post-religion. Even many Christians are looking for it. And I think my current thinking on life after death reflects this.

It's amazing how syncronous the universe works sometimes. A women who works for me Father died of a heart attack on the weekend. Acutally having thought about this subject really helped in providing a framework for both me and others to think about such issues. Its about allowing the space to question, think and feel, rather than answer.

People are like sausages, it's what's under the skin that matters. Therefore, you should poke them with a fork periodically.

Drinking beer makes you feel the way you want to feel, when you're not drinking beer.

It's good to see good threads never die, they just get resurrected.

    Without fail.

Ive thought about this quite a bit this year since mum and brother died. I have less idea than before.
Strange stuff happened when my mum died. Very strange. Tuesday night I was on placement in a hospital. An elderly man had been admitted earlier that day with heart problems (had a UTI). I went in to check on him and he just smiled and held out his hand. I stood there holding his hand for a while feeling really at peace and kind of odd. After i left I found mum had gone right down hill.
She died the next day while i was at work talking to a good friend of mine. A minute or so before i got the phone call from my older brother (he called the instant she died) I said to my friend 'shit you looked like mum there for a second'. It was a split second facial expression. After i said it we both just stared at each other and my brother rang. Left me feeling extrememly strange, comforted and well, i dont know. So what was happening with my mum with all this? I just feel she was letting me know. Maybe its just me needing that comfort. Who knows.
I went to placement that night and went in to see the old man again. He smiled and held out his hand. i held his hand and talked to him for a while. But it was nothing like the night before. It was just me chatting to a patient. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are some that would say that because he was the grandson on Julius Ceaser, he had the privilidge of nominating someone else to die for him(Simon) and he left with Mary and baby to France.

BTW- Timothy bribed the guards and they let Simon down after a couple of hours.

Has anyone read the book The death of forever - a new future for human consiousness by darryl reanney, its a really interesting book to read which is about death, he talks about relativity theory, quantum mechanics, genetics, psychology, myth, cosmology and anthropology. Its a pretty deep book but its very interesting.

and in strange aeons to come even death may die"
