Is anyone going to the BDO on the Gold Coast?

I am doing security on one of the barriers. Looks like a great line up!

I was told I am on "the main stage" but I looked at the timetable and I am not sure which one is the "main stage". I will be on the front barrier - just look for the guy in the security uniform ha ha!

Yeh there's two main stages mate right beside each other. Once one band finishes on the one stage, the one right beside it fires up.

Not sure though if I'll be a the front of any of those stages though Big T. Im way too old for mosh pits and D barriers these days!!!!

Although i am a fan of the Mars Volta and they are playing a main stage. So there is potential. If some guy is yelling somnething at you please dont throw them straight out - it might be me!

Do we need a secret password or handshake or something? ha ha ha

Ok sounds like that is the Orange and Blue stages then. You can yell at me all you like, I doubt I will be able to hear you, ha ha!

No secret handshake, just do a few bodybuilding poses so I know who you are

You are never too old for the mosh pit ;).

So I ended up on the Green stage which was under an enormous plastic tent making it about a zillion degrees. Out of the sun though, thankfully. A few big acts, like Rise Against, Jet, Grinspoon and Fear Factory. I was on the D barrier all day, right in the middle, so I reckon I pulled 100 people over the barrier over the day. I didn't mind lifting the 45kg little girls who were getting crushed in the mosh pit, but when 100kg shirtless sweaty blokes are asking for a lift up its a bit rich! Ha ha! Bad decision to do strongman events training the day before, as I was already sore.

I will definitely work BDO again, I really enjoyed it!

The best thing about working a D barrier is as soon as you drag someone out of the crowd you hand them on to someone else.

Only one incident pissed me off, a bloke was crowd surfing so I jumped up to pull him over the barrier. The people around him grabbed him and it basically became a tug of war between me and the crowd with this bloke as the rope. I held him by one arm for ages (probably over a minute) while half a dozen tried to pull him away. Unfortunately I ended up losing....

I was at that stage for the Grinspoon set Big T. Nowhere near the front though. They went off I thought.

See that guy climb one of the support poles during their set? For a good three songs this guy hung off, with a one finger salute to the crowd - and was absolutely PELTED with bottles/cans/rubbish and he hung on.

Yeah I was watching that guy climbing. I was too busy dragging people out of the crowd to worry too much about his safety, but I was amazed at how much shit got thrown at him.

Grinspoon were pretty big, but nowhere near as big as Rise Against. I have since heard from several people that Rise Against was the wildest mosh pit they had ever been in - and from my point of view (in the middle of the D barrier) I have no reason to doubt this!

Biggest disapointment of the day were Jet - the crowd was very lukewarm. The Decemberists were good - the lead singer jumped off stage and gave his guitar to the guard beside me to play - but he can't play. I can play guitar, so it might have been my big break, ha ha!

Tim, I don't envy you having to be there yesterday. I sat under the fan at home with a spray bottle and I was still dying....

Im going to the Adelaide one and can't wait. I love BDO. Hopefully the security guard who i made friends with at soundwave last year will be there. He gave me cordial instead of just water. All the kids around me were spewing. Pays to be old :D
