Ignore this thread, OzStrongman has folded. Check out the Strongman Australia Facebook page for any interim news. I will endeavour to report anything relevant on Size Matters.

Oz Strongman has released some dates for next year.

Anyone know what sort of events and weights are used in the Teen Nationals? I'm thinking I might fly interstate to tear it up.

Hey Vanillawhey, I should have updated this thread, the OzStrongman federation has folded. Check out the Strongman Australia group on Facebook for interim news.

All is not lost though, I have been assured that the Kalbar event mid year will definitely be a go-er, and there are a group of committed people organising some other events for 2010.

As a guide though, the last teen/amature comp in October 09 consisted of 4 events - Super Yoke, Log Press for reps, Farmers Walk and Stone-over-yoke for reps. You may find a truck pull, tyre flip or some sort of medley in a comp as well.

What state are you in, there is probably a training group near you....

    Hi Tim.

Woah that's not good news, the sport is already a minority here in Australia.

I'm in Perth WA, I've competed once before, last year, in a comp held by Matt van Beuningen, did alright considering I was 17 at the time.

Would a 600kg raw total (something around 220/120/260, my bench is weak) make me competitive at a teen national comp? I'm shooting for that in 6 months hopefully If I can stay injury free.

I'll join the facebook strongman group tonight when I get off work and get on my own computer, I'm just exited to do as many competitions as I possibly can, the more experience the better, I want to make it to the top.

Thats a pretty good total, and as you know bench press has limited carry over to anything, so you definitely have plenty of strength there. Knowing the events is a big thing though, there is a lot of technique required. When you get on the Facebook site I am sure you will be able to hook up with someone training in WA.

As far as you "tearing up" at a teen comp - I train with an 18 year old who is far stronger than you or me....

Haha, fair enough, I talk to a 17 year old oly lifter who is a hell of a lot stronger than I am, good for keeping me humble I guess, but don't worry, I'm only getting stronger!

I have to agree with you there Tim ,

The teens & juniors these days are light years ahead of anything I saw when I was a teen. We currently have a Junior WR holder ( Sqaut/DL) with a 302.5 Sqaut @ 90kg training at my gym.

Im sure Tim will keep everyone updated to what happens with Strongman comps this year. There will be a meeting held this weekend to discuss the future. Its hoping that promoters will push their own shows which will be supported under one governing body so that there are state and national events.
