Does anyone know anything about lawnmowers?

This is about as "off topic" as I can get, ha ha

I need to pension off my ancient Victa 2 stroke mower. I want to get something with a bigger deck (22" or similar). I would like to stay with a 2 stroke though as the super low mainenance appeals to me. I really would like to stay under $500, but if I can't, so be it.

Yes I considered a ride on but my landscaping out the front would be a bit tight, and need a push power anyway.

Anyone got any thoughts? Am I silly to stay with a 2 stroke?

    Tim

Hmm 2 minutes of online research has shown me that most decks are 18 or 19", so I must've made up that bit about a 22" deck...

You gotta focus more on the style than the 2 vs 4 stroke thing. When you are out front, no one cares what motor you are mowing with, just what you look like in your wrestling bib and brace spandex, floppy hat and thongs with the mower adding that touch of class.

Tim most stuff is heading the 4 stroke way now mate.

ive got a victa 4 stroke mower that sits out side for most of the year and it starts second pull most times. my misses can even start it without to much effort. as for a bigger deck i dunno about that

oh yeah maintenace wise ive changed the plugs and blades once in 4 years

I could be wrong, but from what i know most of the bigger mowers come in 4 stroke and i think for the bigger work load 4 strokes are recommended, although as you have said can require more maintenance, but not much more. I know when i was getting a mower i was advised a 2 stroke would be fine for the general home, but if you have a larger property i should at least consider a 4 stroke.

Perhaps try and get your hands on a second hand council mower, I know these are turned over quite regularly (depending on council) and are always servcied and generally looked after really well

Mate just get a 4 stoke theres not much difference in maintance and you don't have to piss around mixen fuel and oil, and then draining what u don't use 2 stoke goes off quickly, plus better 4 heavy work

That sounds like everyone is pretty much voting for a 4 stroke. I have 2025m2 so it is a bigger block.

Zam I will look into a second hand council mower, but after having a look around this morning it looks like there is plenty of good stuff in the $400-500 range, and everything has a 24 month warranty.

I wish I could justify Hogan's chopper. I actually found during my research that there is local mower racing club Sunshine Coast Lawn Mower Racing Club Inc, Queensland, Australia
    ha ha!

Thanks for getting back to me everyone!

So I was making a racket doing atlas stones this arvo, and my neighbour popped over to see what was happening. We got talking and he sold me his 3 year old Rover for $100.

    Happy days!
