Personally i use tanita scales in conjunction with fat calipers.

    neither are cheap.

$300 for the scales and $50 for the calipers.

i think the calipers are the important bit, if you've got them you can make do with a much more basic scale

Only my opinion but if you get BF scales just remember they may not be that accurate.

However the other thing to remember is that say "your" scales give you a reading of 23% bf, and the next week it is lower and the next week lower then who really cares of accurate they are. Its only a number, right?

Yep.... BF scales can vary wildly based on hydration alone.

Having said that: I use Tanita scales, fairly expensive ones, and I calibrated them using a DEXA scan as the reference point. I also take the measurements at roughly the same time each morning so as to reduce the variables as much as possible. At the end of the day, the BF measurement will only give you a relative guide, not an absolute number.

I mean just a simple accurate digital scale that just weighs you.

Nothing to high tech as i dont see no point in it.

Harris Scarfe have some decent sales on scales. We bought some a few months back that did all the bodyfat stuff but were crap. We took them back and got a glass covered digital set they do a great job. I'm sure they were around the $50 mark and have a 4 digit reading.

Anyone up for some opinions on a nice cheap, digital yet accurate scale?

We bought a set for about $50 that were reduced from $250, or so. The BF ones seem very weak. One of the buttons got stuck and I had to get it out with a knife. we took it back. You had to enter ever little detail and I couldn't be bothered working out how to use them.

The glass top one we got was about $20-$30. They must have a huge margin on these things as most scales they have are reduced by 75% or there abouts.

    These are great.

I would think that you would be more concerned about how you look in the mirror than the number on a scale?

Why? Your 16, is that correct? You are still growing - living or dying by a number on a scale is counter productive when you could be just puting on muscle mass or height related to puberty. If you grow 2 inches in a few months, and get leaner at the same time, you are probably still going to be heavier at the end of that two months, despite being leaner. Do you see my point?

Whether a "cutter" is required for a 16 year old anyway, is a completely different topic, however I would think just living a normal healthy, athletic lifestyle would be enough to keep you lean at your age. Its not like you are a 25 year old bodybuilder who has been "bulking" for 5 years and needs to get lean to display 5 years of mature muscle.

I understand what your trying to say. Really Cut also means lose the fat im not doing a "pre contest cut" or anything just a simple factor of losing bodyfat.

The scales are to help measure my progress of how much fat i would lose per week. I cant get my maintenance rate because i got no scale thus meaning i cant start my cut.

I have atleast 20% bf and would like to lose it then do a slow clean bulk.

Im only doing a cut based on a self decision its not like im going to enter a comp anytime soon.

You're 16, you DO NOT need scales, numbers will only complicate things... At your age you metabolism is going crazy so burning fat off shouldn't be a problem....
All you need to do is what Big Tim mentioned, eat a healthy balanced diet, be active in the gym and aerobically, and don't stress so much about it...
Its a very simple objective you're trying to achieve, stop trying to over-complicate things!
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!
