I generally agree with most of what's been said.
In summary for me:
If the kid thinks it's something she wants to do, great;
On the little info in the article, the parents seem to be taking a reasonable path;
If she understands the notion that competition means winners and losers, great;
The bikini thing? Two minds.... prefer that to the naked 6 yr old "art" subject :)
Body image? I'm inclined to think the experience will be positive about body image and promote the idea of health and fitness, as opposed to most of her fat mates, who by 10 probably need cholesterol medication;
Don't think she needs to wait to be older. This is not that far away from the Physical Culture world that many kids much younger compete in (oh the days of being dragged around watching my daughter compete <<sighs>>);
I think "bodybuilding" is a term that is a misnomer here (for headline effect);
I'm hopeful she becomes a role model for other kids (male and female) of similar ages, that may inspire them to do this (or some other fitness oriented activity), rather than spending endless hours on Playstations et al, becoming unhealthy, obese people.
