A few movies i've had some time seeing the past week. Some old some new...

    Bruno
Far out! Lighten up people! What was so bad about it?
Why did people like Borat and not this? Same humour!
    I enjoyed it.

    Orphan
It was abit slow. Some typical usuals in a scary movie like how obvious it is you are living with someone that isn't all there but you still refuse to see the signs.

About a family that adopt a girl from an orphan, but start getting suspicious of her when weird things start happening around them.

    Strong
A documentary about Joe DeFrancos gym (youtube clips doing the rounds lately of the intensity that goes on in there). Great 1 hour watch.

    Bigger Stronger Faster
Finally sat down to watch it. Great documentary. Speaks for itself.

    Saw 6
They've got to stop now with the story line but the traps were excellent!

    2012
Typical story line done to death.
Typical America saves the day, "we're the best."
    Good for the special effects.

    Saw Beethoven Film.

    Decent documentary.

I'm biased - he is my favourite composer of any genre (although I prefer Brahm's concertos)

Probably only for Beethoven fans. Some of the performances use period instruments - which may please some, but I'm so used to the steinway sound that I prefer the modern interpretations.

His late in life compositions whilst totally deaf - including the extremely ambitious 9th symphony, regarded by many as his best - must rank amongst all feats of the human intellect.

How's this for a comedy cast:

    - Adam Sandler
    - Rob Schneider
    - Chris Rock
    - David Spade
    - Kevin James

The movie is called 'Grown Ups'

Saw 2012. Effects are really cool (especially Yellowstone going up in a volcano like it did in the dinosaur era) but typical story - how many times can you just outrun the earth collapsing into nothing behind you. I think these movies would be better if they were 'darker' but they always have some cheesy, selfish American family, along with a really annoying crazy know-it-all. Its like there trying to make you not like the movie.

MO - China saves the day this time, not the US. That was a pleasant change.

Probably one of the better end of the world movies though overall. 6/10 for me.

Ah yes, China with the whole building of the boats etc. But the ultimate decision about saving people at the end? It was Americas last say with that video conference at the end.
Oh and shit, the whole divorced parents and the next boyfriend of the ex wife in the way of things story line. With the whole useless husband trying to win back the family. That boyfriend was gonna get killed off sooner or later and the family together happily ever after. So much more taciness throughout. Just a story line done to death.

So much more i could pick on but might ruin it too much for others that want to watch it.
How unrealistic was the escape from the world starting to collapse in that car scene?
Schumacher wouldn't of even been able to do some of those manouvers let alone in a friggen limo!! lol!

I can let imagination run wild in most cases and not be so picky, but i think they tried to appeal to little children also with this film in order to get a wider audience.

Yep, agreed. I'd really like to see a movie deal with a real human reaction to the demise of the species rather than spectacular escapes, which we've all seen before.

I'm sure technology would come to the rescue somehow. I think it would also be amazing how humanity would come together. What would be the effect on warfare, terrorism, politics? Religion? Interesting questions that never really get examined but i'm sure our 'oneness' would come to the fore.

You're very optimistic Azzah, I reckon in an end of world situation things would very quickly spiral into anarchy & it would be everyman for himself.

I was considering seeing 2012, but will wait for it too come out on BD.

Watched The Box last week. Interesting movie which does explore some darker moral choices. Written/directed by Richard Kelly of Donnie Darko fame. The Box is not up there with Darko but it's still a decent flick. Some creepy characters with good performances. I'd recommend The Box if you don't mind a bit of weirdness in your films. Fans of David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Blue Velvet etc etc) will surely love it.

I watched Slumdog Millionaire on the weekend. I was quite surprised how good it was. I really enjoyed it the way it all came together.

    Tranquillo,
    you enjoyed The Box?
I must admit, it seemed interesting untill critic's have called it one of the worst movies ever made! The Box - The Worst Movie Ever Made? - Yahoo!7 Movies

Mino, i'll go see Avatar to support the Aussie actor in it. Also from Terminator Salvation.
He's such a full blown Aussie, its funny! If anyone saw his interview on Rove the other night, you'll see what i mean. I've got a feeling he's our next best shot in top Aussie actors with a few more great movies.

Yeah he seems like a decent, down to earth guy. Can you imagine how it would have felt to sell all your posessions and live in your car... then out of no where James Cameron flies you to the US, goes into bat for you for 6 months to convince the studios to let him spend hundreds of millions with you as the leading role for a film? Unbelievable!

The trailers/previews to Avatar look fantastic, I'm really looking forward to it. Another movie of Worthington's that is coming out soon is Clash of the Titans. This also looks good, I'll definitely be seeing that too.

Yeah mate I actually did. I can understand why it's gotten some bad reviews, it's one of those films you either get or you don't. I got it so I liked it. It's based on an old twilight zone episode. It's definitely got some weird stuff in it. I wasn't aware how many bad reviews it had received until after I saw it. Guess I went in with a open mind, not knowing what too expect.
