mmmm... I thought "Legend" was a good film as remakes go. I think a number of actors could have done an equally good job.

I doubt any actor is "worth" $38M a flick..... but of course, if it ensures even ordinary films pull big audiences, then I guess it's money well spent.

With someone like Jim Carrey, it's just weird to see him in a film where he is trying to be serious and a bad ass.
He's stuck in comedy forever. Tried to do variety of other roles but failed terribly.
A very good actor like Denzel will still even be fixed to the roles he usually plays as saving the day type of movies.

Sky is the limit as to what you are worth when you can play almost ANY role like Will Smith can.
He is definently most suited in comedy, but pulls off the hero saving the day or an action movie just as well and you wouldn't think twice that he came from comedy.

    Gifted actor.
    Worth more.

No one is worth $38m a movie. Maybe with the 'GFC' global financial crisis, were realising that paying these amounts of money is sick and ridiculous. How can we pay this much to a movie star and pay so little to nurses, police, military, etc. Yeah, I know capitalism and the market rule, but if CEOs are under pressure to reduce their wages, why not everyone else?

cause they can pay that much... with most movies grossing on average $US200million they're not short any money... and for his job thats how much he's getting payed...

nurses, police and military are government funded i think... and the governments in crisis not the movie makers...

I have always said that a surgeon who saves lives and has given someone you know who was dieing, a new heart, should be the highest paid people on earth, so true that.

Just talking about 'hollywood wages' for this chat though.

No doubt we 'can' keep paying that much, but the question is should we? Is it moral? Thankfully many of the stars have a conscience and do good things with their money.

It was this kind of excess that has, in part, caused some of the revolutions that have occurred in the last few hundred years. I just can't help but think that one day, the common person will have enough and seek to rebalance the system.

Watched Tropic Thunder last night and it was pretty funny. Tom Cruise was the best, which is something I'd never thought I'd find myself saying. Jack Black was bloody hilarious too.

Also saw stop-loss with Ryan Phillipe. Stop-loss is a policy introduced by Pres Bush that prevents soliders who have undertaken a post in Afghanistan/Iraq and were seeking to get out of the Army from leaving, and re-sending them back to the war. Apparently there have been 650,000 Americans serve in the wars with about 80,000 of them experiencing a stop-loss. Jeez Bush is going to be remembered for so many wonderful things.

Anyhow, good movie, good acting, but very serious so it was good to have a comedy afterwards.

Stop -Loss was good. I had no idea about the 'back door draft'. It makes sense though, got to get soldiers from somewhere. What a relief to have Bush gone!

The movie industry will suffer just like most areas of the economy, movies are a luxury. I would suggest they are one of the first things to get cut from the family budget, when times are tough. Not that movie studios will ever be short of cash though.

    lol..............dude, how bad are they?
They're are so bad that they are cool, I love movies like that.
They remind me a bit of the Troma movies such as Toxic Avenger etc.

I watched a couple of movies recently, albeit totally different genres.
Blood diamond was one with that guy from Titanic, parts of it were pretty gruesome, but it really kept my interest up, very enjoyable.

The other one was that cartoon movie that Jerry Seinfeld did, The Bee Movie.
It was a bit flat in spots, but some of it was classic Seinfeld styled observations.
I dunno whether I'd watch it again, but it was okay if you want some light entertainment.
