    Hernia's

Just found out I need 2 removed. 1 from naval the other form the solarplex. Just when I was getting somewhere in my program and hitting goals.
Has anyone had either of these done and then resumed weights? How long am I looking at before I can get right into it again? My GP say 3 months, and specialists says @ 6weeks.

    Hey Tryin,

Sorry to hear that. Resting up and getting stronger for the comeback is much more important right now. I'm not sure if you know much about weight watchers but i've seen people (including myself) lose weight on it without really trying that hard. Exersise is part of the program but not essential. If you keep an eye on your diet, you shuld be ok for the 6 weeks.

Then you can come back with vengence. Good luck!

People are like sausages, it's what's under the skin that matters. Therefore, you should poke them with a fork periodically.

A mate of mine had a navel one sorted about 3 weeks ago. He too was advised 3 months by the specialist.

Needless to say, the week after the op he was on the treadmill doing walking. The next week he was doing a gentle run. This week he was doing some lightish - high rep weights.

That said, I personnally wouldn't be doing the weight lifting bit myself after just 3 weeks (particularly things like bar bell curls that I saw him doing).

Had one on each side near groin done with keyhole(mesh), starting next day you can walk around slowly then after a week its back to normal as far as mobility.. doing anything really strenuous on the gut/core region is a whole nother story tho, even tho you feel mobile and fine really stretching out your core is a whole nother issue.. just make sure the doctor is aware of what type of excersize you're referring to and go based on his input.. just so he isn't giving you advice for general excersize rather than something that is really working the core.

Ive also had 2 inguinal/groin hernias fixed openly with mesh. They were big set backs for me as I was off all training for at least 6 weeks each time and when I did get back into training there were many pulling type and squat/deadlift exercises I had to be careful with.

Keep your chin up mate. Ive had no issues over the last year and Im lifting the heaviest and made the best gains I ever have.
I always wear a thick powerlifting belt for pulling/squat movements these days and really focus on breathing to prevent increases in intra-abdominal pressure.

    Good luck

My wife had a hernia back in March and it took her 12 weeks to get back to lifting heavy'ish and a further 4-6 weeks to get her confidence back for heavy doubles/singles. Take your recovery easy and dont push it if you dont feel right.

cheers guys... surgery is next thursday, so i've got 1 more week to smask it in the gym. the surgeon tells me 4 weeks thanks to the mesh but somehow i think he was referring more to cardio workouts than weights. I've come around to think 4 weeks off might be ok, then use it as an opportunity to get outside and do some roadwork and gradually go from high reps to heavy weights again.... as they say gotta make lemonade!

Ive had 2 x inguinal groin hernias fixed, to be honest one of the most painful post surgery things ive had, everything from coughing to sneezing will hurt like hell for quite some time afterwards. minimum 3 month lay off for me, although afterwards the renewed enthusiasm was great. Mien were fixed key hole mesh, surgeon said they will now be stronger than ever, however i still get little tweaks and pinching sensation from time to time after training legs...... best of luck with ur surgery.
