Need opinons on Blood Test Results - Liver Function Test

    Hey everyone

I posted this in my bunny thread but obviously no one even bothered to look at it cos I got no replies.
Hoping the body doc can give an opinion and then possibly other members who have had the same test done/got similar results can give advice.

Got the results from my bloods I had done on Feb 13th.

All cool, except the LFT. Here are my results:

    Total Protein 72 g/L
    Albumin 41 g/L
    Alk. Phosphatase 94 U/L
    Gamma-GT 47 U/L
    ALT 42 U/L
    AST 39 U/L
    Bilirubin Total 5 umol/L

My doc said he is concerned about the levels of Gamma-GT, ALT and AST.

He said it could be a sign of glandular fever or hepatitis. So he has sent me off to get more tests for glandular fever, and heps A, B and C.

Both my partner and I have been tested for all STDs and since neither of us have had any other sexual partners it cant be Hep B. But I have no idea how I could have got Hep A (food) or Hep C (needles, blood, drugs etc).
Nor do I have any symptoms at all of glandular fever!

    This doesn't make any sense!

Hey mate I saw it in your thread but I didn't really know what to say other than I have my fingers crossed for a good result for you. When will you get some results?

I don't know much about the accuracy of blood tests - is it possible for it to just be an anomoly?

ALT 42 U/L slightly elevated, upper rnage is 36
    AST 39 U/L ok
    Bilirubin Total 5 umol/L ok

    Hi,

Next time GB, include the lab ranges :)

From what I can see there doesn't appear to be a major issue. Slightly elevated AST/ALT numbers can come from lots of places and doens't always mean a problem. Has the doc suggested re-testing soon? I would be.

You might want to think about some liver support, like milk thistle, alpha lipoic acid, etc.

He asked me if I had been taking lots of painkillers and I said no (cos I don't) but I remember that morning I had gone for a run and when I got back i think my leg was hurting as it often does, but I cant remember if I took any painkillers or not.

When I do take painkillers (once or twice a fortnight) it is 3 nurofens or panadols.

Post-eating blood tests are, in some cases, misleading.

    And how was your glucose?

All of which can elevate liver enzymes, which is why I asked if he/she suggested you get re-tested soon-ish. I would still suggest you take some form of liver support.

Glucose was 4.5 mmol/L which he said was absolutely fine. (range is 3.0-5.4)

Oh and for interest's sake my cholesterol was 5.1 (should be below 5.5). Its always at the high end of the scale. A year ago it was 5.4. High cholesterol runs in my family but not sure what role genetics plays. Doc said it plays a role with me but not sure whether to believe!
