    Refused Blood Tests

Just went to my docs and asked for the following tests, was refused as he says there is no need for them to be done and since there is nothing wrong with me i dont need to know:

    FBE (Full blood examination)
    UEC (Urea, electrolyte, creatinine)
    LFTs (Liver function test)
Fasting lipid studies (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TG)
TFTs (Thyroid function tests - TSH/FT3/FT4)
Iron studies (especially important in females)
    Vit B12/Folate
    Testosterone
    SHBG (Sex hormone binding globulin)
    Estrogen

    What next, different doc?

Should I add anything to the list?

    Different Doc for starters...
Then make sure the doc is aware that you want them done as a preventitive measure, to ensure that there are no underlying health conditions developing or pre-existing that may not have surfaced as yet...
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!

Most GP's will be wary about doing everything on that list.

However, it's perfectly normal to want to have everything checked once per year... yes find a new GP.

Is it covered by bulk billing/medicare, or will i have to pay, if so, how much?

Should I reduce the list, he gave me a script in the end for:

    QML Fee: dunno how much
    Test
    Oest
    SHBG

    Bulk Billed:
    FBE
    E/LFT
    BSL ron studies

He just gave them to Dad to give to me

Go to an anti-ageing specialist GP. They won't argue the toss about preventative tests.

This just reinforces my view about the medical system and how it's so focussed on a curative approach, rather than a preventitive one.

Everything on that list is medicare covered, with the possible exception being B12, that I'm not sure of. Even if it's not covered, it won't be much.

If you want a complete list of test requests, here ya go.

    Testosterone
    SHBG (Sex hormone binding globulin)
    Estrogen
    Progesterone
Cortisol (preferably 24hr saliva test, but if not, AM blood test)
    Prolactin
    DHEA
    Homocysteine (inflammation marker)
Zinc (can be done as a taste test, and can be bought here Ethical Nutrients Zinc Test 100ml*::*Ethical Nutrients Natural Medicines*::*Brands*::*Natural Health Organics
Thyroid Function, including RT3 (Reverse T3)
    Liver Function
    Kidney Function
    Full blood count
    Lipid profile
    Iron studies
    Glucose tolerance test
    Vitamin D
Depending on your ethnic background, genetic test for Haemocromotosis. If you have European ancestry, worth getting done.

I've had the same things happen to me, and i was explained by the doctor that because i was so young and had no obvious problems she would not test me except for sti's.
Her reasononing was because if she got audited she would have to explain to medicare why all these expensive tests were being done on a "perfectly healthy male."
She then went off on a tangent on how everyone abuses the medicare system etc etc.
To be honest i can see where she is coming from, but as T2 says surely a preventative approach would be encouraged.

Mate, that audit line is a total crock of shit. If a doctor feels that it's in the best, long-term interest of the patient, then they order whatever they like.

This Govt has announced and partly implemented a preventitive health approach, although it's massively flawed, so times are slowly changing.

Again, as I said, anti-ageing, wholistic GPs, are going to do these tests if you ask for them, because their focus is about stopping you from getting ill, not fixing you after you get ill.

How would you go about searching for an anti aging/ wholistic GP?

I did a google search for the above in perth and got nothing. My only headway was to search on google maps and this pointed out practices but it doesnt really indicate why gps are anti aging etc.
