Hey Doc
simple question, I just noticed that Voltaren recommends not using it for longer than two weeks. Is this a "if pain persists see your doctor" type of recommendation, or is there a deeper reason?

Hey mate, that is a bit of the basis of it, as generally an inflammatory condition should not persist beyond that period, unless of course it's chronic joint degeneration, arthritis or the drug is being used to treat other pathology, such as bone cancer. If your symptoms fail to change after 2 weeks of taking Voltaren, you should definitely see your doctor.
While many view Voltaren as a fairly low sides drug, (and it is one of the better tolerated), it can cause issues with some people. These conditions include asthma, comcommitant use of anticoagulants, such as aspirin, warfarin or even other NSAIDs. Some people experience severe gastric complications and skin irritation, others may experience hypertension or even liver dysfunction as a result of taking the drug. This is generally dose and time related. Short periods are generally well tolerated, but it should be taken strictly as directed by either your doctor or pharmacist.

Glad this topic has been posted.
Ive been interested in Voltaren since seeing the new ads recently.
I have also begun experiencing more pain in my muscles and joints since upping my training duration and intensity.

If you are looking at something just for muscle soreness, I recommend Flexall. It's menthol, eucalyptus, peppermint, thyme in a vitamin e and aloe vera base.
Your opinion BD?
Flexall is good, when you're the receiver of the massage! I used to use it in my clinics all the time, but as a therapist it can be murder on your hands, not to mention your other bits if you need to go to the loo after using it!
Muscle aches and pains can also be helped by a nice hot bath with a box of Epsom Salts dissolved in it.

I was put on to a vetinary product thats been great.... Rapigel...
Although it does suggest its for animal use only, i haven't had any adverse reaction to it...
Is there anything I should be worried about by using it, doc?
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!
Highly recommend Voltaren, not long ago I had a bout of tendonitis - pain where the bicep connects to the forearm - made a few excercise adjustments and used Voltaren for a week or so - worked like a charm.
