    Liver function test results.

Well I got a full blood work done and everything come back golden except this.

Liver function consistent with mild hepatocellular damage.

The values that are worth of note:

    Bilirubin 26 (<25)
ALT 68 (<51) This is the one of concern
All other values are well within the normal range.

Although I did note that comparison to previous blood tests in 2007 the ALT value was also elevated above normal to 59.

Now let me say I don't drink very often at all, only the occasional social drink if I am not cutting, and this is not the result of c17a alkylated steroid use.

If anyone could throw some ideas at me as to what would perhaps be the cause and a possible solution to fix it I am all ears.

    Cheers.

I have had liver enzyme tests 4 times.

One in 2005 (before I had any medical problems) and 3 recently.

My bilirubin is normal however - this can indicate jaundine (has your skin yellowed????).

I have had 3 recent tests with elevations (dates 7 Jan, 30 Jan, 19 March). My 2005 test was where my health was perfect and all was fine.

Urea, AST, ALT were elevated in all tests, and Phospate, ALP were elevated in initial ones.

All have improved in each test - shocking results in the Jan 7 test (eg ALT 138, normal range 0-50)

What do I believe causes are?

Well seemed to coincide with parathesis and leucine ingestion? I started in november and got problems pretty soon. but I could be wrong.

    Can't say I really know.

If u find out cause let me know - I don't really know yet, and once I get my iron overload syndrome test back, I will get a referral from specialist if they are negative.

From memory, ALT can be elevated due to muscle damage as well. My past LFTs have always shown elevated ALT - I've had Liver CT scans, MRIs, Ultrasounds and there's no dramas. Incidentally, they did find a thing with me called a Riedel's lobe - an extra lobe on the liver, which is relatively uncommon. However, the bonus is I have more detoxifying goodness!!

Try getting hold of some R-ALA (Make sure it's "R"), and some milk thistle.

interesting...my test said "raised urea with normal creatinine may be seen in...increased protein catabolism"

As I said elsewhere, I wouldn't be too concerned. Try some high dose milk thistle for a month or so and get retested. I've had a roller coaster of liver results for years, and from my experience there are lots of things that will upset some values, yet be fine the next time. Also, get your homocysteine and C-reactiove protein measured.

    Cheers.

Thanks guys I will pick up some milk thistle, but it's also good to know that the values can vary, but it's just worrying that they seem to be on the increase from every test I have had, I thought it might have been a chronic problem.

adz; you know my view on tests: GET IT ALL TESTED :)

I went undiagnosed for decades all for the want of a simple blood test. Everything is connected chemically, (stating the obvious), so an issue may impact somewhere else. Simple I know, but unless you have a complete body chemistry assessment, then you'll never be 100% sure.

But as for liver values, they can go up and down a lot. As a rule; if I have a bad liver result (remember, I am totally tested every 3 months or so) I get it done 2 weeks later to be sure.

    Cheers

Thanks T2, that's pretty much the conclusion I had come to and what I was going to be doing, good to see I am on the right track.

Lets pray I have many more drinking years ahead of me

Good luck to you; I'm not allowed to drink at all. One glass a week... and I can't save them up :) :)
