Thats good Mondo! If I could buy a cheap pair and get the performance from them then I would gladly buy them. I only paid the big bucks for the Brooks to see if it would resolve my problem, and it did . ( By the way I only use Mr el cheapo shoes when weight training now and they are fine for that.
    cheers

shin splints. man i feel ya. i needed to up my fitness quickly and every night i'd try go for a jog and nearly cry from the pain as i hobbled home. the pump was so intense i'd lose all movement from the shin down(alkle i couldnt move, could wiggle my toes only just)... see compartment syndrome on wiki, perfect explination of how it felt

best running shoes i could buy helped a little bit, but not much, stretching has helped, but mostly you just pick something else, bike/crosstrainer/box/etc for your cardio

If you are keen on running, go get checked out by a podiatrist. You can put a lot of stress on your shins of you have flat feet (like mine - killer shin splints). It could be your technique in running and you definately need to work on your calves. It'll take the pressure off your shin muscles. Also, which side do you get the pain, medial (inside) or anterior (outside) of the shin or both. Another thing to do is ice.

Mondo, you should be changing your shoes every 6 months. To have them that long they'll have lost a lot of the suport in them.

Beeman I've heard this too. That the splinters of bone go into the muscle and then causes the pain. I was told that once but not sure if that is exactly correct.

but they still feel nice to wear man. i have got other trainers which i won for free but i only wear them on special occasions lol, a $200 pair of Asics nice shous lol they look same as my Fila ones tho lol. I dont see the point in changing them man if they still feel nice to wear.

"shin splints" is a generic term that covers about 4 or 5 different causes for pain in the shin typically as a result of exercise. it's not a specific condition.

For everyone that gets shin splints and all that sort of stuff or cant find comfy trainers to wear for running, i heard this on the radio today:

if you buy Reeboks new trainers from Rebel Sports ($200) and they dont fix your problem, you can take em back and get your moolah back.

Just thought it may be an idea if Reebok think they are that great that they would put that kind of garuntee (sp?) on them. And the end of the day if youve still got the same problem, take them back.
