Blood tests - what to ask for?

    Hi All,

Sorry ive left this a bit late. Im going to the doctor tomorrow just for a check up basically.

Ive got a few things im going to ask. Im going to also ask for a blood test. Again more as just a health check more than trying to find anything specific.

Will the doctor essentially request a basic set of bloods - or should I ask for some specific stuff? If so.....what?

    Any advice appreciated.

This comes from a top doctor on another forum:

    Routine/General health assessment (blood tests):

    FBE (Full blood examination)
    UEC (Urea, electrolyte, creatinine)
    LFTs (Liver function test)
Fasting lipid studies (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TG)
TFTs (Thyroid function tests - TSH/FT3/FT4)
Iron studies (especially important in females)
    Vit B12/Folate

More specific tests for people using AAS (blood tests except the last two):

Androgen studies (Free Testosterone, SBG, DHEA, androstenione)
PSA (Prostate specific antigen - usually inconjunction with prostate exam.)
    FSH/LH
Cortisol (which can be random or early morning)
Urine microscopy (which can lead to culture and sensitivies if bacteria is isolated)
24 hour creatinine clearance (involves collecting urine for 24 hours)

Those in competitive sports/athletes with Sports Doc supervision:

Various heavy metal levels (Zinc, Magnesium, Phosphate, Calcium)
    Various Vitamin levels (Vit A, B groups, C, D, E)
Oestrogen/Progesterone levels (for competitive female athlete)
    Prolactin levels
    Growth hormome levels.

    As M.O said -

    FBE (Full blood examination)
    UEC (Urea, electrolyte, creatinine)
    LFTs (Liver function test)
Fasting lipid studies (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TG)
TFTs (Thyroid function tests - TSH/FT3/FT4)

    Iron studies -

Ask for FE (Ferritin iron) levels, most people underate this important
one, it's basically your stored iron levels.

I had FBE including cortisol a.m. and calcium done recently for my own curiosity.

It was all bulk billed :-)

    Hi Belmont,
if its your cholesterol your interested in you should request the Dr does a Cholesterol and Trigliserides so you can evaluate the HDL (good stuff) and the LDL (bad stuff) of the lipids in your blood.

I did the CSIRO healthy living diet and monitored my bloods and saw amazing elevation in HDL and reduction of LDL over a period of 6 months checking initially 1 month and then at 3 and 6 months.

I wanted to see if the increase in eating meat based protein was going to affect my cholesterol in a bad way and it wasn't he case for me.

I also monitored my FBC, UEC, Mg, Ca and Phos levels.

    Hi All,

Do you need to get all the AAS listed tests done if wanting to test the effects of natural best testosterone boosters?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Just ask for your testosterone levels to be checked.
Best to do this before you start the tribulas product and then after to see how much of an increase it really gave you.

I'm personally looking forward to the results.

Think they would let a 17 yr old get an FBE? Or test/est/shbg?

i wouldn't think you'd need it at your age jaiman... and beside the hormones you are naturally producing in abundance could very well skew results? I mean, i know i got gyno through puberty(maybe 14?), bet my blood if tested wasn't good... never had it since tho.
