    Karl's L&M Challenge Diary

    Well here I am in all my glory - think I'll change my login name to "Fat Bastard" - geez those photos don't hide anything.

    Not to worry - twelve weeks from now will be a totally different story.

    Haven't been able to get into the site for 2 days to post this info.

    For body fat % I get - Tanita scales 33%, Fat Track Calipers 29%, mybodycomp.com 25%.

    I'll use mybodycomp.com for tracking as it's probably the most accurate of all the methods available to me. I'll be updating these weekly by doing a weigh in and taking measurements every Sunday morning.

    Started this week off with a bad dose of the flu - won't let that beat me - couple more days and I'll be right into it - still getting the food in, just can't exercise.

    Anyway, my info is below and some ugly, ugly photos :D wish me luck.

    Thumbs up 31.08.2003 Update

    Well here is my weekly update.
    It's been a bad week for exercise - this flu has knocked me on my back all week - got up this morning and went for a long walk - that blew the cobwebs out.

    I've been good with the diet, only missed one meal due to being asleep and the weight is still coming off without losing too much muscle mass. Hopefully getting back into the gym will help with that.

    I've indicated the changes since I started - will do this each week.

    Based on whats happened so far I'm pretty happy, now to get back into the gym.

    Update 7.09.2003

    Here's my update for this week.

    Bit confused but I'm sure Jesper will sort me out ;)

    Had a pretty good week really - not perfect - about 90%.
    Did 5 cardio session, 3 Weights - this fits in with my routine.
    Hit all meals but 2.

    Had a fathers day dinner on Friday, Indian - had lamb and spinach curry - little rice and 1/4 of a plain Naan. Also had a birthday dinner for my sister yesterday - had the chicken and salad with the Dijon Mustard dressing.

    Overall not too bad I think but I actually put on 0.5kg (Lost 0.08 LBM and put on 0.58kg body fat). What The!

    Not happy Jan.

    Having said that, my body measurements are still changing for the better I think :)

    Here's my measurement update.
    Found that my knee measurement was taken in the wrong place - readjusted from begining - more realistic BF% - To provide an acurate comparison I've repeated the first weeks results with the correct measurements.

    Thumbs up 14.9.2003 Update

    Pretty good week really.

    Got it happening in the gym and with the cardio.
    Diet - I'll give myself 95% on that - had a few jelly beans watching Wizard of Oz with the kids last night.

    Body measurements are changing all ove the place and I put down the poor result last week to a bad measurement day ;) That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Either way you've got to be happy with 2" off your waist.

    I've included below changes from last week and changes from the start.

    Looks like I'm om my way to a much leaner me.

    Congratulations to Jesper and Rossana
    Great results guys. Truely motivational for someone like me who is working toward being in the best shape they can be. Both of you show what is possible in a relatively short space of time. To come 3rd and 2nd respectively in the Australian Nationals in your first year of competing is fantastic and a great insipration to all of us that use the Sizematters shop and forums.

    Not only do you talk the talk, you walk the walk and have got the pictures and a few nice trophies to prove it. Keep up the good work guys.

    21.9.2003 Update
    Bit late getting this in - busy weekend.

    Not a bad week - I'll give myself 90% - I've had a pretty busy week but still managed all my cardio - I had to change around my weights workouts to fit in but got all body parts in at least once.

    Diet - pretty good except I went away for the weekend and had a couple of beers on Saturday night - Sorry Jesper, only 3 I promise. The rest of the weekend diet was good. Took all my food with me.

    I feel I need to adjust the diet slightly but will see how I go. The weights still coming off but seems to be slowing a bit - might be those beers - time to get strict with myself and see what happens.

    Body measurements are still changing - what's the story with those shoulder measurements???

    I'm looking at doing the ASN Fat loss weights programme from today for a change - I'll let you know how it goes. I'll keep up with my own cardio workout programme.

    Time to dig deep If I want to lose 12kg of body fat before christmas - any suggestions welcome - and yeah I already know, DON'T DRINK BEER!!!

    21.9.2003 Update - End of Week 5

    Another good week, about a 95+%
    Got all the cardio in and weights sessions.

    Changed my weights workout to follow the ASN fat loss program. Enjoying that for a change. I normally do a spilt similar to BFL cycling over 2 weeks. I'm enjoying the each muscle group once a week - It give more flexibility and I get plenty of rest.

    Diet - pretty good no real deviations - 1 dinner that wasn't on the list but I was pretty good.

    Still on track to lose that 12kg of fat - like to make it 15 but we'll see how we go. I'm looking to finish up better than 15% BF - still make me around the 115kg mark at 16th November. If I keep going right up to christmas, another 5 weeks, I might be able to make single digits or close to it.

    05.10.2003 Update - End of Week 6 - HALF WAY!!!!!

    Another good week except for work making 2 days diet get a bit pear shaped, meant I couldn't get all my calories in - probably explains the weight loss, apart from that all went acording to plan - I'll give myself an 80%.

    I'm a hard marker but I think you have to be, expecially on yourself.

    Got all the cardio in and weights sessions.

    Strange week for the measurements - only my knee measurement changed???????

    Half way comment.
    ok - here I am half way and still on track to lose 12kg of body fat.
    That should make me end up at 119kg and say 100kg of LBM. which will mean I'll have a BF% of about 16% at the end of the challenge - not shredded but better than the fatso I started out as.

    It's all just becoming habit now and getting easier - I feel like I should be pushing the cardio harder but will continue on as I planned - why change it if it's not broken.

    I've made the decision to continue on right up to Christmas that 'll give me another 5 weeks of cutting. If I can maintain 1kg fat loss per week that'll make me 115 @ 13%BF. I'd love to make single figures by then but realise that may be a challenge for after Christmas. I'll just have to see how I go.

    Good work Karl! Well done on making to halfway. That's a lot of hardwork done and a bit more to go :D
    As to your hanging on for another 5 weeks, I'd say reach the 12 weeks and assess your progress, even have a week off to reward all the hard work you've done to date. Then get back into it. 17 weeks is LONG time to diet my friend. Stop to take in the success to date first - then slug out a few more weeks!
