Lightbulb Starting to Bulk on CKD

    Hi Guys,

Thought I'd post up here since from today I have 'officially' started bulking!

I thought of using the CKD to do this as I am enjoying the diet and to be honest since I have lost so much body fat the last thing I want to do is put it all back on.

I will update here regularly for anyone who is interested; just let me know if you are!

    Current Stats:

    Height: 184cm--------Weight: 62.5kg--------BF:11%-----------Maintenance Calories: 2200 approx-----------------------Bulk CAL: 3000

Should say, my first target is too reach 70kg and see what my BF is and than will take it from there...

So first question from my side is does the 3000 calories for bulk sound about right and is this compliant with my goal; theoretically speaking?

To get a little more info on me check out my introduction post.

Also if you want to check out what I am eating or how much etc Click here

If you have any advice for me or tips etc: Please don't hesitate to tell me I am here to learn and am still very inexperienced lol...

Well, your a little underweight there, so you could afford to eat some carbs without bodyfat impact.

Well structured training and food is vital to growing effectively.

I'm sure you've done this already but make sure you allow for a carb load every 5 days or so and also a big load of pre-workout carbs midweek (coupled with a load of whey). And remember that a Keto diet is not an excuse to eat poor sources of protein and fat like bacon and cheese. Your calories should be 20% more than you maintenance calories for this type of diet - do you know what your maintenance calories are?

    Cheers Guys,

Will take that into account C_T...

CMinOZ, I did my first carb load last week so officially I have been on the diet for about 3 weeks; next carb up starts tomorrow night.

My Maintenance calories are 2374 so according to that I have set my bulking calories a bit higher at 3000.

I used the philosophy of eating equal to between 20-25x my body weight (pounds) and went with 22x; thus hitting somewhere in the mid-range.

In regards to the bacon and cheese, I thought cheese was like a staple on the keto diet? I don't often eat bacon, because of the high level of sodium etc...

watch the cals mate. Most people go way too high.

i can add muscle just fine on 2500 cals a day, and i now weigh 85kgs @ 5.5%

3000 - 4000 cals a day is bullshit in my experience and will just make you fat (unless of course you're a 130kg monster to begin with)

actually, ckd doesn't require re-feeds, because your taking carbs around workout times, controlling the insulin resistance...

    Cheers DAVA and C_T

So i'll back down with the calories and start with 2500...

Just for reference sake, I have links for the reading I had been doing prior to starting this regime; basically where my philosophy came from...

    Link 1 bulking on keto

    Link 2 (anabolic diet stuff)

I think you have confused CKD with TKD. CKD consists of weekly carb-ups, twice a week sometimes depending on goals and your training schedule. TKD is the one which does not include a carb-up due to peri-workout carbs.

I was thinking that too, I limit the carbs I have per day to approximatly 20 and will start my carb-up tonight and finish tommorow.

Also I have set my calories to 2560. So I guess we will have to see where it goes from here

    Thanking you kindly!

    Really good reading so far!

One question I have though so far...

Which works better the Anabolic diet style where you eat whatever you want for 36 hours or the CKD style where you aim for high carb and low fat?

I get that it may be a question of whatever suits your body, but in general does anybody have any comments?

    Cheers
