    Adrenal Fix-Fatigue Be Gone!

Ok, some of you may want to shoot me down after this because nothing I will say here is going to sound politically correct. Big deal, let’s go…

I’m going to give you a quick fix that has nothing exotic written on it, no NO and no Xplosions this or Bomb that sorry, this is simple (yet far from being simplistic), and basic (because there’s no law that says it has to be sophisticated for it to work)!

Sea salt and lemon juice! It’s not rocket science I know, but I grew up on it in my country of origin. Salt you say? Isn’t that the devil that gives you high blood pressure and all the other nasties? You tell me. Lemon juice? Well it makes the water with the salt feel just balanced out (without getting into the benefit of lemon juice here).

Mix ¼ teaspoon of good sea salt with the juice of half a lemon added to 250ml of water. Take that half way through your workout when your killer hormones are just about getting ready to pounce and drag you and your workout down into fatigue land.

I’ll stop here without adding anymore words to this small article (for now) or adding more ingredients to what is extremely straight forward. You want a pick me up FIX; I’ve given it to you, take it or leave it, the choice is all yours.

Fadi, you have specifically mentioned "good sea salt" I have always wondered, what is the difference between normal table salt and a "good" sea salt?

    Thanks

ljk23, I chose to leave the science at home on this one and present it as simply as I know how. I hope you don't mind.

PS: You look awesome (just right) in your avatar shot. That's what my mind was thinking, now you know.

    Hi Tim,

Generraly speaking, good sea salt is not pure white for starters (fully processed) and table salt is a chemical called sodium chloride and nothing else. Their effect on the blood pH is like chalk on cheese. One causes alkalinity whilst the other (table salt) causes an acidic environment. Taste (possibly) the same, but please don't be fooled.

So Fadi do you carry a juicer around in your gym bag?

I more partial to lime juice, does the smaller, greener cousin of the lemon prove worthy?
I just saw my parents having sex, that's the last time I visit that website.

Now that sounds interesting. I could have done with that today. I have been having lemon juice and Balsamic Vinegar (50/50) with my salad lately so will mix up a salt and juice bottle for my next workout.

Like whole eggs and red meat, salt gets a bad wrap because most people are fat lazy bastards. For us active types, we need a bit of salt in our diet.

Fadi, if you are feeling frisky, any chance of letting us know how the drink works under training stress?

I remember my science teacher talking about sea salt. Because he said all the health fanatics think it's healthier but in fact it worse for you because it's not iodized or some shit. Can you shed any light on this Fadi was he wrong or is there more to it?

Lime juice is fine, both the green and its yellow cousin are as extremely alkaline in the body as they are acidic on the tongue. You want some acidic/lactic acid buffering effect, then stick to the most acidic (only on the outside) juice of them all. Lemon juice has a ph level of 9; that is way up there in the land of alkalinity. Compare that with Coca Cola which has a pH of 2, Ouch that burns!

First off let me be absolutely clear, I am not a health fanatic or a fanatic about anything else for that matter. Secondly, your teacher does have a point when it comes to iodine. I did not want to complicate the article and found no need to even mention iodine since I'm not writing an eating plan but rather a fix to a problem. Now I personally do take kelp which is a seaweed rich in iodine.

Just did a search & found this interesting page on the food standards Australia site about mandatory iodine fortification.

Mandatory Iodine Fortification (July 2009) - Food Standards Australia New Zealand

    Sorry about the hijack :)

Not at all M1CH, I did not take offence in the least but was simply replying to your teacher's attitude. All's good mate.

    Cheers,
    Fadi.

Hi Fadi, thanks for this... I heard that the magical ingredient in Powerade is actually just Salt!... would drinking one of these have the same effect as your potion?
