    Best cut of steak

What do you think is the best cut of steak for bodybuilding?

I tend to eat alot of porterhouse and scotch fillet. Is there any better or cheaper options?

Topside. I get it from the market for $7 kilo. I get about 2-3kg at a time. I get the butcher to cut any obvious fat off it then put it through the mincer. Much leaner than any other mince you buy and also you know what's in the bag.

When I get home I divide it up into 200g lots (coz on my cutting diet that is the amount I have per meal) and stick it in the freezer. Works out to about $1.40 per meal. I grill it or pan cook it, keeping it medium rare. Very tasty and tender.

Eye fillet, scotch, etc have a better texture but then they are up to 3x the cost. It adds up if you are eating red meat regularly.

I do something similar to Hogan.

I get rump or similar, trim the fat then put it through the mincer.
I have a sunbeam electric mincer... its pretty nifty.

if you pick up steak for <$10 a kilo it makes for cheap quality mince.
Its not often you can buy mince for that cheap.

Lately I've been buying whole rumps for $9 per kilo from a bulk butcher. Average weight is about 5Kg's. I get the butcher to cut about a dozen 250 - 300g steaks. Then depending on the size rump I'll get 1 or 2 good size roasts. I'll mince the rest myself too make Bolognaise or chop up the off cuts too make stir fry's.

If I was buying purely for taste & texture then I'd go with sirloin or maybe rib eye if I was planning on doing something fancy.

A whole beef fillet is the best.

Cut your own fillets from that, 1" thick.

I usually go eye fillet, get it from a bulk meat butcher for 13.99/kg, I by the full fillet and cut it up myself, then for a change i will gte some scotch fillet which is a bit fattier but IMO a bit tastier.

I am also a Porterhouse guy.... Tip---For all you Brisbane guys get your self to the Super Butcher for quality bulk buys at very good prices. The factory outlet at Yatala is great, a shop has just opened at Tweed Heads and another is opening in Eagle Farm in two weeks.

We spend about $150 each time we go and very happy with what we get for our money.

A lot depends on how you plan to cook it.

In general, I buy bulk rumps.

Makin me hungry lookin at that mate...

I do the same thing on occasion, but usually its just porterhouse or rump from the supermarket or local butcher... I eat my steak rare to medium rare so becoming tough and chewy isn't much of an issue...

I buy Beef Round Eye Roast. Comes in a big slab, usually weighing about a kilo and I just cut it up into 200g portions. I get about 5 steaks for $13ish dollars if buying from the supermarket.

It's super lean, which makes it a little bit chewier (also because it's a roast cut), but I eat my meat blue / rare so I just chuck it on the BBQ for about 2 - 3 minutes each side (the pieces are really thick) and it's good to go.

    Love it.
