    Kangaroo v's Chicken

    Hey all,
Can anyone advise as to why chicken is chosen over kangaroo?

Im currently on diet for my first comp.

Kangaroo is leaner and lower kj's. Understand that chicken is higher protein.

Would love to hear some diet tips if anyone wants to share.

Im Female, 37, currently 60kg's, trying to get down to 52 for comp weight.
Doing my first comp (NATURAL) in May.

    Cherie

Theres not much difference in them as far as I know. I think its more of a habbit thing and taste!
    Around 200gm Protein = 44gm(chicken) to 46gm (skippy)
    Cals = 220 chicken to 196 skippy
I think the mineral and vitamin content could be different! not sure!

    Thanks for your reply!

Congratulations on your desicion to compete..

yes kangaroo is a much better source than your normal chicken (based on amino profile).

Then theres some marginaly higher thermic effect, wich means you expend more energy proccessing, and it's not raised on hormones or antibiotics.

    cheers

Also grain fed negates alot of the health benefits, and trashes the CLA levels

Would the Kangaroo sausages be ok to eat often, compared to the fillets/steaks?

The pack says per 100g, something like:
    Protein 20g, Carbs 4g, Fat 1g.

I have been eating the sausages alot lately, as they are convenient and cheap.
Got alot of 500g packs the other day for $2.70 ea, seems like nobody ever buys them at the supermarket, they have a long expiry date too.

I'm eating 500g per day quite often.
Any reason this would be unhealthy?

Just check the preservatives and alike. Should be ok if they are low fat! I just think they taste like shit that’s all!

Thanks you Skegsy! Im looking forward to competing, such a learning curve though! Ill be competing in Bodybuilding.

I have been buying the organic/grain fed chicken and you can really taste and even see the difference - but price, well that makes a real difference too.

I was just trying to understand why most 'cutting' diets or weight loss diets that I have seen in regards to bodybuilding DONT ever mention Roo?

Its like 'cheating' and having a big steak to have Roo!!! without cheating!!

Any other tips for the girls? Im so new to all this!!!

luv my kangaroo and eat a heap of it, but make sure too throw some chicken in there somewhere, use a variety of lean meats and stay healthy.

It takes 22 amino acids to build human muscle tissue. The only protein source that has all 22 is whole eggs (which is actually 2 protein sources…the white and the yolk). 2 meats together that do not have the full 22 is chicken and fish. You have to throw a whey or dairy source on top of it to complete the profile. You can still make the gains on a single source, but your body has to manufacture the other amino acids from the essential amino acids, which takes time, energy, and reduces the available amino acid pool.

Not suggesting taking 2 in the same meal, but throughout the day seems more practical

Thanks! You are a wealth of knowledge arent you!
1 eat 4 egg whites a day and use Horleys Ripped (x 1) and BodyRipped SPS protein powders X 2. Its just so hard when Im trying to loose weight, get all of the protein that I need and keep the calories down!! raaaah!
I eat every 2-3 hours..... like I NEVER stop eating! lol

There are a few recipes on here containing kangaroo. I personally don't like it but many do here.

I love roo. I think its more a cultural thing that we don't eat more of it. Lets face it, most of our food dishes have been adopted from other countries and they are not going to include roo - and asian dishes are more than likely going to contain chicken.

Right there alone is a great reason to chew roo.

Thought i'd bump this thread up as I just had an awesome Kangaroo roast for dinner, herb and garlic maranade on it, absolute gold! With a side plate of a shitload of broccolli covered in pepper...
And cheap as too, about $8 for almost 1Kg of roo meat.... So plenty left over for meal 3 tomorrow!
Today I will do what you won't so Tomorrow I can do what you can't!
