    That dead was great form!
There is a reason for that slight lift with the arms.
A variation to the "monkey see, monkey do" deadlift.
    Effective.

    Troy Alves:

    Posted on his Facebook....

"unfortunately, bcuz of lack of sponsorship I am out of the olympia. I apoligize to all my friends and fans."
I think it could just be a way to get sponsorship.
Shawn Ray from MD, had these wise words to say...

It is a Sad day when Bodybuilders Opt Out of competing in the Biggest Contest in the world after busting their chops to get qualified then plead poverty going into it.

1st off, The Mr. Olympia Competitors have ALL their Expenses Paid for by the Weider/ AMI Group, so there are no extra Expenses incurred while in Las Vegas.

Each Qualified Athlete gets their: Airfare, Hotel, Per/ Diam and Transportation taken care of.

I fought hard to ensure every Athlete gets compensated simply for competing in the contest, initially it was $4,000 per competitor now it is $2,000 which leaves the athlete with something rather than nothing when placing out of the top 15!

I dont get the Math when it comes to guys who fly across the country to compete in smaller shows, pay for their own hotels, plane tickets and food then when the chance to get into the Superbowl comes which costs them nothing, they decide they cant afford it?

Hell, I know guys that would PAY to compete in the Olympia!

First there was Melvin after winning the Arizona Pro now Troy after 2 consecutive 1st Runner-up finishes in Tampa and Connecticut totalling $8,000.00

It really is a sad day when a Pro Athlete decides the sport he dedicated his life to is too expensive for him based on lack of Sponsorship.

Well, Sponsorship is a Priviledge the select few can enjoy.

The Fight for Sponsorship is waged on the Battle Field of the Olympia Stage where Warriors have to fight for Supremecy and Sponsorships. Kill or be killed! Take what you want where nothign is granted to you. I loved that aspect of the sport and miss it dearly.

Nothing is granted to those who sit on the sidelines and the ones who step aside so others can step up, are soon forgotten.

It really is a sad day.

Troy is a friend of mine.

I hope he'll change his mind or we can effectively begin writing his Retirement Story now at the age of 43 because he may never have the chance to make it back to the Olympia Stage where he belongs and should rightfully retire from.

The majority of guys competing on the Pro Scene dont have Sponsors and the ones that do are at the Top of the Food Chain and should not be critisized for having them.

Troy has had a good run of 2 out of 3 shows an been given the oppotunity to showcase his body on the Biggest possible scale.

If that is not encentive enough to find a way to get back up there, being held one state over from his home state, then he should stay home for whatever reasons he deems justified in doing so.

That will only mean that someone else will be afforded the opportunity to be Showcased in our sports premier event.

Had this been 5 years ago, I promise you a Broke Melvin Anthony and Troy Alves would jump at the chance to get up on that stage for the opportuniy to compete regardless of the cost, they'd find a way to be there.

So to answe ryour question, Time and Finances have a way of taking the fun and joy out of someones "Passion" and replacing it with Life, Priorities and Responsiblities.

Again, it is with a heavy heart that I say, we will miss Troy on that stage he fought so hard to get back to and maybe, in years to come he will realize he should have competed to finish his career where he always dreampt he should be, "With the Best Bodybuilders in the Worl on the Mr. Olympia Stage!"

Can't be a Cowboy Son without having to purchase the Horse and the Rope!

Just an observation but at last check Sponsorship Contracts are not a guarantee to people sitting in the stands waiting for something to be offered.

The best shot at a Sponsor is by Competing and doing well.

Well, he was well on his way but Finances will be what killed his career and took the passion out of what once was his Dream and that is a tragic commentary for someone with so much to offer the fans.

Just an observation, we all have to work to pay the bills, even the guy who finishes last and flies in from another country with only the shirt on his back.

Trust me when I say, I have heard worst stories about why guys quit just never thought it would come from a friend who's dream I am watching come to an end over money.

    Wishing Troy all the best.

I read Troy's facebook update too. I'm sure he has his reasons not to do the show, but I doubt it has anything to do with sponsors.

Gav, were you thinking along the lines of "What's the point for a guaranteed outside the top 10 placing?"

Slightly off tangent but I believe that the 202 class have to pay their own way to the Olympia. So if they can do it......
There are essential Amino Acids & essential Fats. There are no essential carbohydrates.
    Squat 215, Bench 150, Deadlift 280 12/2011. Comp maxs Sq 190, bench 140, deads 270. 27/11/2011

Pretty much. More along the lines of "What's the point of entering a comp where my type of physique does not warrant a look-in by the judges" Not exactly something you can come out and openly announce under the IFBB dictatorship.

And fair enough too, I wouldn't blame him. How many comps has he done this year already? 3-4? That's a long time to be dieting, let alone to dieting for another 2 months for a comp where you know you won't place top 10. Plus he's competed at the Olympia many times before - if he'd never competed in an Olympia it might be a different story...

Troy's physique is one of my favourite of the current Pro's. He looks happy/healthy and I bet he'll be one of those guys that still has an awsome physique at age 60.
