It was an emotional moment for any Luke Wood fan in the audience and was very hard for the big guy to announce as he was trying to say his speech with his parent's coming along to support him on this tough moment.
Luke Wood call's it a day:
"Yesterday Cronulla Leagues Club i made my speech at the 2009 Australian Titles that im exiting the sport of compeitive bodybuilding.
I only got to thank a very small handful of people as it was a hard emotional thing for me to do, but due to health reasons its in my best interest to say goodbye to the stage. Not bodybuilding, just competing.
Ive been doing this now for 17 years and at only 33 thats about half my life.
I am a little bitter because i still had alot more to do but also feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Being Luke Wood i made that job very hard for myself and at times i was a run away train with nobody driving!!
I love bodybuilding so much, i never really gave myself the chance to love anything or anyone for that matter like i love this sport.
Now that will change and i am really looking forward to my next challege in life and i do have a few that im prepared to take head on.
Im a leo and with don't just lay down LOL!!
Ive been able to work with some people that only most can dream of.
Train and become close dear friends with Milos Sarcev. Milos is a genuis. Competed in 75 pro shows and 10 Mr Olympia's. He really show me the art of bodybuilding.
Ive been trained by Charles Glass, Samir Bonout and Charles Poliquin,
Done photo shoots with Jay Cutler, Dave henry, Gustvo Badell, Hide, Silvio Samual, Dexter Jackson, Jonny Jackson and Branch Warren.
Trained with Joel Stubbs, Jonny Jackson, Hide, Silvio, Dennis James and Milos Sarcev.
Been on stage in competiting with every from Chris Cormier, Kevin Levrone, Dexter Jackson, Markus Rulh, King Kamali, Hide, Silvio, Dennis James, Dave Henry, Jonny Jackson, Branch Warren, Darrem Charles, Phil Heath, Vince Taylor, Victor Martinez, Toney Freeman, Quincy Taylor, Melvin Anythony, Gustavo Badell, Mustafa Mohammed and a heap more.
Competed on the Olympia stage on 2005 at the Wild Card show. It was not the Mr O but it was the same stage and we got to pump up with the same guys in the Olympia, the press comference and everything. That was Awesome!
The 2007 Arnold Classic. WOW!! to get an invite from Arnold himself is something i will treasure forever!
So i have nothing but happiness in my heart. I have nothing to be sad about! Yes i will miss the stage but i have also done it all and i look back and i am so happy and honoured to have been given this chance!!
To Paul and Carol Graham for giving me the chance to earn and win my pro card almost 10 years ago. Thankyou for giving me that honour!
